My tib wouldn't start the other week, and it wasn't a simple dead battery or anything that I could figure out and fix on my own at least. So I towed it into the local Canadian Tire (Big box store of camping and automotive stuff in Canada) turns out my fuel pump was trash so I got that replaced and was sent on my way. Also got my tires rotated because they told me it needed to be done.

Car wouldn't start again two days later with the same symptoms. Had it towed in to the same place and I was pissed at them. They got a code out of it this time. P1693 Immobilizer transponder antenna. They can't fix it so I had to book an appointment at the dealer for a week and a half away.

Driving home from school in the next city over on the freeway and my tire exploded! My right rear tire blew up going 110km/h! I fish tailed a little but kept control and luckily the drivers around me were paying attention and I managed to pull over and put on the spare and got home safely.

I think the shop f***ed up with my tire rotation because they were brand new tires at the beginning of the summer and had no issues at all until now. It was my first time on the highway since their rotation and the entire time it was handling weird, almost like slippery or something? (It was perfectly dry) I'm thinking maybe they didn't tighten it enough and maybe had some wobble or something like that? Not sure, because it blew up before I could have a real look.

Switching to winters for the season and waiting for my appointment at the dealer.

Anywho, I'm just pretty pissed that sh***y things are happening to me and my tib. Just needed to vent a little.

When it rains it pours. I hope this Canadian Tire store compensates you or gets a slap on their face. Who knows though, maybe they aren't to blame but definitely seems like it. Although they probably just guessed the original issue.

That is why I never go to Canadian Tire to have my car fixed. Usually it is a bunch of kinds who receive a very small formation and then have the rights to fix car critical parts such as brakes, tires and few engines stuff.

Sorry that all this happened to you.

Sad to hear, but it could be worse. For example, that tire could have blown at a time when it would send the car (and you) into a tree for example. That said, I understand, I've been there (in fact I once experienced a wheel in the process of falling off on my car). Also, if you're in southern Ontario you got a handful of guys here usually available to help out! Myself included, I have a spare fuel pump assembly that I would have let you have (and install it too).

My thoughts as well. When I was younger I thought I would let them at least mount tires on my wheels. Even that was an annoying experience. Thankfully I have been introduced to an excellent tire shop after that and have been going there since.

Thanks for the sympathy everyone.

I'm going to take my blown tire to Canadian Tire tomorrow and let them know my disapproval to say the least.

I'm from Chilliwack, BC. About 1.5h drive from Vancouver. I appreciate the gestures and will be sure to bring my problems to here first to get help from you magnificent people! (Hopefully I don't have any more problems, actually)

really sorry to hear of your experience, i feel for ya! hope everything gets worked out favorably. as far as that immobilizer code, you are the 3rd member this week to have this issue and we are trying to sort things out. kinda difficult as US Tubs dont have it. should you get it repaired in meantime could you let us know so it may help the others?

AFAIK Immobilizers can only be dealt with at the dealer :/

I had a couple of good experiences with my local Canadian Tire up until recently. Now if I ever need to use them I specify to only do what I want done, that's it! They always pull that you need this or need to that crap and I hate it. Got them to put in 2 new Bilstein shocks on my Titan recently and to fix a slow leak in my passenger rear side tire. The screw was close to the edge still on the tread. They call me back saying the bill is now $750!!! beacuse I needed a new tire!!! They said the screw is in the sidewall??? I said just do what I asked you to do please and leave my flippin' tire alone then because I don't want it replaced they are brand new. I had to take take it to another tire shop who fixed it with no problems... idiots...

Canadian Tire is fine for sourcing parts, picking up some good on-sale tools (Mastercraft Maximum are a fave of mine, I like the lifetime warranty and the sales are great occasionally) or for buying cheap toilet paper. That being said, I wouldn't trust Wal-Mart to fix my car, so I wouldn't trust Canadian Tire either, unfortunately. I kind of compare them to the likes of a Mr Lube, etc. Just want to make the most money possible per person. Sucks, but it's a reality for most CT's now.

I've been to BC once and it was to go work in Chilliwack for the week! Went to the Canadian Tire too :p

If you're by the District Public House say hi to Shannon for me!

You got it. I will hopefully have an idea of what went wrong and how to fix it by the end of next wednesday, and I will post my findings.

General rule is if a puncture is within ~1/2-3/4" of the sidewall (but in the tread) you CAN'T plug it. An inside patch "may" be fine but still not recommended. Part of this is because you can start to separate the insides of the tire with the plug.
Sidewall cuts/punctures are never repaired by a decent shop.
I have used tires patched like this for a full size spare though.>:D
