Hey guys just curious as to where everyone normally shifts while driving! I dont mean racing or anything, but more like just cruising like a normal drive. In the manual the recommended shift points i beleive are.... 1st - 20, 2nd - 40, 3rd - 55, 4th - 75, and 5th the rest... i know the 6th speed in the manual is a bit shorter about 5 km every gear and then 6th is 95 or something like that. Does it make a difference as to were you shift? Like performance wise on the car?

i shift around 2500 RPM because my tib sounds like a Honda Civic Fartcan because i have not yet installed my resonator on my custom exhaust

horrible just plain horrible

but normally i would shift at 3K for MPG

however realistically i would shift at 4 K when just playing around to get out of traffic

I call bs... :) I bet you floor it getting onto the interstate.

It depends on the temperature. if it's bellow i take it a bit easier. Like around 2.5-3k until I get the engine warm. Then I take it up to 4k-5k in each gear after that. I have never red lined 1st tho. It always scared me.

I recently topped out every gear... So I guess I fibbed on the red line in first gear.. sorry.
1st- 25ish
2nd- 55
3rd- 85
4th - 120
5th - 140..... I got pulled over doing 138 and it's on my record for those who don't believe me :p

I drive an 05 Elantra GT 5spd Beta2. Just thought I'd add my experience.

I usually shift at about 3k unless I'm driving it hard or trying to get out of traffic. Or late for work, that too. I don't shift based upon speed usually, until I've hit my cruising speed, then I put it in 5th and enjoy.

It depends... when it's cold out I shift it around 2-2500
Normal driving is around 3000
trying to get the slow car up to speed is around 4-5000

everything else is redline because the car is soooooooooooooooo slooooooooooooooooow! lolz

lol I haven't laughed so hard... My friends dad did that in his 86 accord 5 speed. he was trying to act asian and was getting up to speed, then instant 5th gear right out of 2nd... Was so embarrassing..

I normally shift at redline. So I can keep up with traffic. One time I tried the shifting at 3,000 but got beat by a fully loaded semi.

I shift at or below 2K.

1st - don't even use this gear
2nd - 10mph
3rd - 20mph
4th - 25mph
5th - 30mph
6th - 35mph+

Gas efficiency FTW!
cool way to burn out your clutch. I some times start out in second, but not often.

about 2.7k....
If i want to get ahead of traffic or show off i shift at 3k (speed shifting)

thanks for all the replies guys and girls.... i was just curious to know more or less how ppl drive the car... i usally shift no more then 3000 unless i push the car... only because i save more gas... and i didnt know how hard these cars could b pushed. i have a 2.7l v6 ... how hard can they be pushed?

i have 03 2.7L v6 and trust me, you'll know when you've pushed it to far :3_shiny: i've raced quite a few people and i'm completely stock and she still holds up pretty well, but i am starting to notice a few changes in the way it shifts and whatnot.

did anyone notice that in the vid the car at the end almost wrecks into oncoming traffic because IT DIDN'T STOP AT THE STOP SIGN!!!

When I first got my Tuscani 6 Spd it was my first 6 spd car, so I was pretty nervous... I found myself shifting at about 2,500 - 3000 RPM all the time...

THEN a week went by :p...

Now in city I shift about 3500 - 4000 RPM (typically clear traffic) and 3000 - 3500 (heavier traffic)

On a clear highway I pretty much hit about 5500 RPM on every gear...

Ive been driving 5 spd manual for about 3 years and never paid attention to speed but more so the RPM...
