Weight of the Backseat?

I have an 03 Tiburon (I4 rip) and I heard that the best way to improve performance is to reduce weight. One of the first things people do to reduce weight in a car is removing the rear seats.

But how much do the backseats weigh (all parts)? And how much does it improve the 0-60 time?
I doubt I will ever take out my back seats...but it is fun to theorize.

So 43 pounds...will removing that really make any noticeable difference?
I mean, I have a pair of large subwoofers that weigh no telling how much so probably wouldn't be worth it.

If you're removing the back seats you should also remove the engine bay covers and their associated brackets. Not only does this reduce weight but theoretically it holds in less heat and provides less restriction for flowing air. And it makes your car easier to work on...
Also consider replacing your tire and spare jack with a can of fix-a-flat. I personally didn't do that one, but it's all up to you. Doing about 100 pounds of weight reduction subtracts .1 seconds from your quarter mile, which with all of those things you would be losing about 100 pounds... Might make for a more consistent 0-60, sure.

...........Also consider replacing your tire and spare jack with a can of fix-a-flat........
ah, fix-a-flat. the fastest way to make your mechanic hate you. I don't recommend fix-a-flat, I recommend leaving the spare tire where it is for normal day-to-day operation and removing it for drag nights or equivalent when weight reduction really matters.

I think the second time I had to work on our V6 Tib engine, I pulled all covers and stored them.
It's a DD, no Frikkin need for covers.......

True.

Fastest way I see peeps KILL 0-60 is buying big butt rims that are wider and cast. On a scale they can be 10lbs heavier. Add to that the biggest mass is further out on the diameter.
Read up on "moment of inertia", this can suck a huge amount of perceived power.
Buying the smallest diameter FORGED rim that clears the brakes can help. It does not ADD power, it just wastes it less (like light pullies and flywheels).

I have done 0-60 tests with peeps with their big rims vs. stock rims. You can sometimes see a big drop in times with the stock rims.

It helps to understand some of the mechanical engineering of things.:nerd2:
