Intermediate Shaft Replacement

I have a 2006 Hyundai Tiburon GT that I just recently had to take to the shop for an evaluation because I was hearing some squeaking from the front end of my car. I just got my front right axle replaced and was thinking that was the cause of it but they ended up telling me that I need to replace my intermediate shaft because the bearing was bad and that is what was causing the squeaking? I also have to replace my front tie rod ends. I am not an expert with car repairs so I was wondering if anyone knew of what brand/kind I need? I have an uncle who is a mechanic so I just need to find the parts. Any help would be much appreciated. I am a complete newbie so please don't mind my lack of knowledge with this type of thing.

Welcome to the forum. I'm not sure what you mean by the "intermediate (drive?) shaft" as I'm not sure that the Tiburon has one. Someone else may be able to speak up on that.

When it comes to ordering parts I've had great experiences with ordering from Rockauto, a site sponsor here. The layout of their site is very nice for finding parts quickly and they have quite a bit for the Tiburon which you might not find other places since parts for our cars can be difficult to find. They also have a monthly 5% discount code in the vendor section. For your tie rod ends (and most other suspension parts) I would suggest parts made by "Moog". They have quality suspension parts and in most cases their aftermarket versions are thicker/sturdier than the OEM.

Good luck!

Also note that Quick Steer is a subsidiary of Moog as well, so you can be sure those are going to be of the same quality.

There is an intermediate shaft on the passanger side of the transmission that then the CV axel slides into. I have not been able to find anywhere that sells one "New" though... So like I said in your FB post Ask them where they are getting it and let me know haha. That very well could be the problem since there are bearings in there, but have very rarely heard of them going out. I work just 1 day a week at a crappy auto parts store (not saying which) litterally just for discounts since I work on too many cars in my free time and we cannot even special order that part.

This makes me cautious, if it's rarely reported to need replacing then I wonder how accurate Pep-Boys diagnoses is. I've had many friends go there and have crappy "never-again" experiences. Once I saw @dpurdy9711 's diagnostic paperwork being from Pep-Boys it threw a flag. You may want to check out another garage to confirm that is actually your problem before you shell out a ton of money for a hard to find part.

I think the only place you can buy the intermediate shaft new is a Hyundai Dealer. Prepare to get raped though. A while ago I searched and searched for anywhere else to buy one or if I could just buy the bearing. I couldn't find the bearing anywhere separate so I just browsed ebay for a low mileage shaft and went with that. You may also be able to find one in a local salvage yard as the 2.7 was used everywhere in the Hyundai/Kia line up. Just be aware I think the one for an auto is different than the one for the 5/6 speed manual.

That person hasn't been on here since starting this thread 4 years ago.
